The Field Report

The HES 7501 is the strike you reach for when you've got a fire-rated opening with door bind. Warped frame, aggressive weather stripping, smoke seals pushing the door against the strike — the 7501 handles up to 15 lbs of preload in fail-secure mode and still releases cleanly. That's the whole reason this model exists: it solves the preload problem on fire doors that cheaper strikes can't touch.

Heavy-duty stainless steel construction. Fits cylindrical locksets with up to a 3/4" latchbolt throw — covers Schlage, Sargent, Yale, Best, and most other major brands. Ships in Bright Stainless (629). Field selectable fail-safe/fail-secure, 12/24 VDC dual voltage, non-handed. Plug-in connector for clean wiring.

Why the 7501 Over the Standard 1006 or 5000

The 1006 is great for basic access control, but it doesn't handle preload. The 5000 series has the muscle for heavy-duty applications, but if you need UL 10C fire rating AND preload capability, the 7501 is the only game in town. The internally mounted solenoid and tamper-resistant housing make it virtually impossible to defeat from the secure side.

Static strength is 1,500 lbs, dynamic strength is 70 ft-lbs, and it's rated for 1 million cycles. For context, a building with 100 door activations per day hits that in about 27 years. It'll outlast the access control panel you wire it to.

Avoid a Callback

Preload release only works in fail-secure mode — if the spec calls for fail-safe with preload, you need to look at a different solution (or fix the door bind). Check your transformer's VA rating: at 12VDC, this strike pulls 450mA. At 24VDC it drops to 250mA. If you're running multiple strikes off one power supply, do the math before you leave the job site. Also, the trim enhancer is included — use it. It cleans up the frame opening and prevents debris from jamming the keeper.
