Product Description
Von Duprin 050242 Entry Buzzer Kit — Add Audible Signal to 6000 Series Strikes
The Von Duprin 050242 is the factory entry buzzer kit designed for Von Duprin 6000-series electric strikes. When the strike releases, the buzzer sounds to let the person at the door know they can enter. Standard in apartment buildings, medical offices, and anywhere a remote buzz-in system is used. Mounts directly inside the strike housing — no additional wiring runs needed beyond the existing strike power circuit.
⚡ Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure — What's the Difference?
Fail Safe — Strike unlocks when power is lost. The door can be opened freely during a power outage. Required on most fire-rated egress doors for life safety. This is the default for fire exits and emergency egress paths.
Fail Secure — Strike remains locked when power is lost. Key override is always available from outside. Used for server rooms, evidence rooms, or anywhere security must be maintained during a power failure. The mechanical push bar still allows free egress from inside.
Pro-Tip from Our Locksmiths: The buzzer is powered off the same circuit as the strike, so if you can hear the buzz but the door won't open, the solenoid is your problem, not the buzzer. And if the customer complains the buzzer is too loud for a quiet office, you can add a small inline resistor to knock down the volume. Not in the manual, but it works.
