Specifying LCN for a school, hospital, or government job? Lock Depot stocks the full 4040XP line, concealed overhead series, and electrohydraulic operators. Call our on-staff specialists at 877-365-5625 for volume quotes, arm configuration help, or fire door compliance questions.
LCN is the commercial door closer brand that shows up on more institutional and government buildings in the United States than any other. It is an Allegion brand — same family as Schlage and Von Duprin — and it carries Allegion's MAP pricing policy. The product line runs from basic surface closers for light-duty applications up to electrohydraulic operators for ADA-compliance requirements.
If you are specifying a closer for a public building, a school, a hospital, or a government facility, LCN is the default that architects, general contractors, and facility managers reach for first. It is also the brand locksmiths encounter most often on service calls for commercial buildings built in the last 40 years.
The 4040XP is LCN's workhorse. Heavy-duty surface mount, Grade 1, available in regular arm, parallel arm, top jamb, and a full range of specialty arm configurations. It handles high-traffic openings — hospital corridors, school hallways, government lobbies. The 4040XP body accepts LCN's CUSH-N-STOP arm cushion stop and delayed-action cylinder options, so one closer model covers most commercial door specifications.
When a customer calls in asking why a 4040XP arm is the wrong length or hitting the door stop before the door is fully open, the answer is almost always a backset issue — the arm was cut for a different door width. We stock the full arm selection and can help you identify the correct cut for your opening before you order.
Available finishes include aluminum, dark bronze, light bronze, statuary bronze, black, brass, and satin chrome.

The 4011 and 4111 are LCN's standard-duty surface closers for moderate-traffic commercial openings. The 4011 is a single-action closer; the 4111 is the parallel arm variant. Both are marketed under the Smoothee label and accept the same arm family as the 4040XP, which simplifies parts stocking on multi-building facilities.
The 1461 is a related surface closer in the same weight class — medium-duty, same arm compatibility — used where a lighter door or lower-traffic opening doesn't justify the 4040XP.

The 2030 is LCN's concealed overhead closer for installations where a surface-mounted body is not acceptable — glass doors, wood doors where hardware exposure would be a design problem, and high-end architectural applications. The closer body installs inside the door and frame, with a track arm that runs along the top of the door. The 2033 and 2034 are concealed closers with standard arms for hinge-side and push-side installation.
On a concealed installation, the hold-open adjustment and backcheck settings are accessed through a small plug in the top of the door. Make sure your technician has the LCN adjustment tool before starting — field adjustments without it waste time and can strip the adjustment ports.

The 3133 is a concealed closer with a hold-open arm — the right call for doorways that need to stay open during business hours but close and latch when released. Commonly specified at fire-rated openings with an electromagnetic hold-open, where the magnet releases on alarm. Installs in the door head.

The 4631 is LCN's electrohydraulic surface-mounted operator — a powered door opener for ADA accessible entrances. It opens the door automatically on a push-plate or motion sensor signal and controls the close speed. Used on accessible entrances where the door must open hands-free. Different product category from a standard closer — it replaces the closer entirely.

Pro Tip: The Arm Compatibility Trap
LCN arms are series-specific, not universal. A 4040XP arm does not swap directly onto a 4011 body without an adapter bracket. When you are ordering a replacement arm or upgrading a closer on an existing door, confirm the series first. The body casting and mounting holes differ between the 1461, 4011, and 4040XP families even though they look similar at a glance. Getting this wrong means a second service call.
| Series | Type | Duty Level | Key Feature | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4040XP | Surface mount | Heavy duty | Widest arm/option selection | High-traffic institutional, government |
| 4011 | Surface mount | Standard | Smoothee label, common on mid-range commercial | Offices, moderate-traffic corridors |
| 4111 | Surface mount (parallel arm) | Standard | Parallel arm variant of 4011 | Push-side mount applications |
| 1461 | Surface mount | Medium duty | Lighter door applications | Interior office doors, lighter traffic |
| 2030 | Concealed overhead | Heavy duty | Hidden body — no exposed hardware | Glass doors, architectural applications |
| 3133 | Concealed hold-open | Standard | Hold-open arm, fire door compatible | Hold-open with automatic release |
| 4631 | Electrohydraulic operator | — | Powered open, ADA compliance | Accessible entrances |
Is LCN hardware covered by MAP pricing?
Yes. LCN is an Allegion brand and subject to Allegion's MAP policy. Prices on this site reflect MAP minimums. We do not sell below MAP on LCN products.
What is the difference between the 4040XP and the 4011?
Duty rating and arm selection. The 4040XP is heavy-duty and accepts a wider range of specialty arms — including top-jamb, parallel arm, and CUSH-N-STOP. The 4011 is standard-duty and covers most commercial openings at a lower cost. For high-traffic or institutional doors, specify the 4040XP. For moderate-traffic commercial doors, the 4011 is adequate.
Can I order just the arm, or just the cylinder?
Yes. LCN arms, cylinder assemblies, and screw packs are stocked separately. If a closer body is mechanically sound and only the arm is damaged, you can replace the arm without pulling the body from the door. Confirm the series number on the closer body before ordering — arms are not cross-series compatible.
What finishes does LCN offer?
Standard commercial finishes: aluminum (689), dark bronze (695), light bronze (693), statuary bronze (690), black (693-0), satin brass (US4), and satin chrome (625/626). Not every series ships in every finish.
Does LCN make low-energy automatic operators?
Yes. The 4631 is an electrohydraulic operator for ADA-accessible doors. LCN also makes the Softtouch and other powered-open series — contact us for availability on specific automatic operator models not listed here.
