Hager is a commercial hardware manufacturer whose SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) cores and key blanks are stocked here for locksmiths maintaining buildings on SFIC master key systems.
SFIC is a cylinder format used in large commercial facilities — universities, hospitals, government buildings — where fast rekeying across hundreds of doors is a practical requirement. The core pulls out with a control key, drops in a new combinated core, and the door is rekeyed without touching the hardware. No tools, no disassembly. Hager's SFIC cores follow the standard figure-8 profile (.450" diameter) and are compatible with any housing built to ANSI/BHMA A156.5 — mortise locks, rim cylinders, knob/lever locks, padlocks, and cabinet locks.
An uncombinated core ships with no pins, no springs, and no keys. Your locksmith pinates it on site to your building's key system. This is the standard ordering method for facilities that need cores to match an existing master key system before installation. Shops that do their own pinning order uncombinated stock and cut to their bitting schedule — it is faster and cheaper than specifying each core individually at order.
The Hager 3909 26D is a 7-pin uncombinated SFIC core in satin chrome (US26D/626). It meets ANSI/BHMA A156.5 and uses a brass plug and shell with nickel silver pins.

Construction cores use a common construction keyway during the building phase so every sub-contractor's crew can access all doors with one key. At project completion, the construction cores come out and permanent combinated cores go in. The construction key no longer works.
Hager's construction SFIC cores are built to the BEST keyway format — the standard choice on BEST-keyway systems. Two options are stocked:
If your project is on a 6-pin system, the 3981-BLU is the right pull. If the building is running 7-pin (more common on large institutional jobs with deep master key hierarchies), specify the 3982-BLU. Mixing 6-pin and 7-pin cores in the same system is not recommended — the key cuts will not be compatible.

Pro Tip: SFIC Compatibility
SFIC cores from different manufacturers are not always interchangeable at the keyway level. Hager's construction cores here use the BEST keyway geometry — they drop into any SFIC housing, but the keys cut to Hager's keyways will not operate a core cut to a different keyway format. Before ordering, confirm the keyway your building's system is running. If your facility is on a BEST-keyway SFIC system, these cores and blanks are compatible. If not, call us before ordering.

What is an SFIC core?
SFIC stands for Small Format Interchangeable Core. It is a removable cylinder that pops out of the lock housing with a control key — no tools, no disassembly. This makes rekeying fast at scale: pull the old core, drop in a new combinated core, done. SFIC is the standard rekeying method on large commercial campuses where a manual pin-and-tumbler rekey on every door would be impractical.
What does "uncombinated" mean?
Uncombinated means the core ships with no pins set. A locksmith combinates (pins) it on site to match your key system. If you order an uncombinated core, you need a locksmith and the correct key cuts for your master key system before it will operate anything.
What is a construction core used for?
During building construction, a construction core lets every sub-contractor access all doors with a single common key. At project completion, the permanent cores go in and the construction key no longer works. This is standard practice on commercial new construction.
Are these cores compatible with non-Hager hardware?
Yes. SFIC cores follow the ANSI/BHMA A156.5 figure-8 format and fit any housing built to that standard — regardless of the lock manufacturer. BEST, Schlage, Corbin Russwin, Sargent, and most other commercial lock brands make SFIC-compatible housings.
Do you stock Hager hinges or exit devices?
