    Upgrading to access control? The Fail Safe electrified mortise lock is the go-to for fire-rated corridor doors in schools, hospitals, and any occupancy where the code says doors MUST unlock during a power failure.

    The Sargent 60RX-8272-24V-LW-26D is a Fail Safe function mortise lock from the 8200 Series — Sargent's flagship commercial mortise platform that's been trusted on schools, hospitals, office buildings, and government facilities for decades. Fail Safe electric operation wired for 24VDC from your access control panel, card reader, or keypad system. The lock retracts the latch automatically when power is cut — code-required on fire-rated egress doors.

    Fail Safe Operation — This lock unlocks automatically when power is lost. That's not a defect — it's a code requirement. On fire-rated egress doors, the lock MUST release during a power failure so occupants can get out. If you need the door to stay locked during a power outage, you want Fail Secure instead.
    LFIC Prep — Ships With Housing, Less Core — The 60- prefix means this lock ships with an LFIC housing (cylinder) instead of a standard pinned cylinder. Install the lock in the door first, then screw the LFIC housing into the lock body like any mortise cylinder. Order your LFIC core separately to match your building's keyway — the core snaps into the housing with a control key. No re-pinning, no tools, swap takes 10 seconds. That's why universities and hospitals love LFIC — one lost key doesn't mean rekeying a whole building.

    This one comes with L Rose, W Lever in Satin Chrome — the 26D finish you see on 90% of commercial jobs because it hides fingerprints, resists wear, and matches every other piece of hardware in the building. When in doubt, 26D is the safe bet.

    Pro-Tip from Our Locksmiths: Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure — get this right. Fail Safe unlocks when power is lost. Fail Secure stays locked when power is lost. The most common mistake we see? Contractors ordering Fail Safe for a server room — that should be Fail Secure. Check with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) if you're not sure.
