Von Duprin 6212 Electric Strike — Oil Rubbed Bronze
The Von Duprin 6212 is for ANSI round-cornered prep cylindrical locks. Same heavy-duty stainless construction as the 6211 but with a radiused faceplate to match round-corner strike preparations. Factory configured as fail secure with 12VDC operation. Fire rated UL 10C to 3 hours. If the door has a round-corner cutout instead of the standard square prep, this is the correct model. Don't try to force a 6211 into a round prep — use the 6212.
⚡ Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure — What's the Difference?
Fail Safe — Strike unlocks when power is lost. The door can be opened freely during a power outage. Required on most fire-rated egress doors for life safety. This is the default for fire exits and emergency egress paths.
Fail Secure — Strike remains locked when power is lost. Key override is always available from outside. Used for server rooms, evidence rooms, or anywhere security must be maintained during a power failure. The mechanical push bar still allows free egress from inside.
Pro-Tip from Our Locksmiths: This is a Fail Safe strike — it unlocks on power loss for life safety egress. That's what you want on most fire-rated doors and emergency exits. If you need it to stay locked during a power outage, order the FS (Fail Secure) version instead. The deadbolt monitoring on the 6212 tells you whether the mortise lock is deadbolted — not just whether the door is closed. That's critical for high-security applications where you need to verify the door is actually locked, not just latched.
