A: Under normal use, a quality alkaline 9V battery lasts 1-2 years. The low-battery indicator gives you advance warning before it dies — we recommend checking during your quarterly fire door inspections.
Q: Can I use the EAX-300 on a fire-rated door?
A: Yes. The EAX-300 does not modify the door or frame structure. It mounts to the header above the door and does not interfere with the door's fire rating or self-closing mechanism.
Q: What's the difference between the EAX-300 and EAX-500?
A: The EAX-300 is Detex's economy exit alarm with a 100dB horn. The EAX-500 has a die-cast housing, 95dB piezo alarm, and more switch kit options. For basic single-door exit alarms, the EAX-300 gets the job done. For higher-traffic or higher-security applications, step up to the EAX-500.
