    Upgrading to access control? The Fail Safe electrified mortise lock is the go-to for fire-rated corridor doors in schools, hospitals, and any occupancy where the code says doors MUST unlock during a power failure.

    The Sargent LC-8270-12V-LNF-10B is a Fail Safe function mortise lock from the 8200 Series — Sargent's flagship commercial mortise platform that's been trusted on schools, hospitals, office buildings, and government facilities for decades. Fail Safe electric operation wired for 12VDC from your access control panel, card reader, or keypad system. The lock retracts the latch automatically when power is cut — code-required on fire-rated egress doors.

    Fail Safe Operation — This lock unlocks automatically when power is lost. That's not a defect — it's a code requirement. On fire-rated egress doors, the lock MUST release during a power failure so occupants can get out. If you need the door to stay locked during a power outage, you want Fail Secure instead.
    Ships Less Cylinder — This lock does not include a mortise cylinder. You need to order a Sargent mortise cylinder separately to match your building's existing keyway (HA, LA, RA, RB, RC, etc.). The product image shows the lock with a cylinder installed for reference — yours will arrive without one.     This one comes with LN Rose, F Lever in Oil Rubbed Bronze — the 10B finish with a living patina that develops character over time. Popular in boutique hotels, upscale restaurants, and residential-feeling commercial spaces.

Contractors ordering Fail Safe for a server room — that should be Fail Secure. Check with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) if you're not sure.
