ND93PD-SPA-605 Schlage ND Series — Sparta Lever, Vandlgard Service/Utility Function, Bright Brass
The Field Report
The Schlage ND Series is the workhorse of commercial cylindrical locks — if you've done any institutional work, you've installed hundreds of these. The ND93PD is the vandlgard service/utility function (ANSI F86): Both levers locked unless a key is used. Vandlgard outside lever spins freely when locked. Common on mechanical rooms, rooftops, electrical closets — anywhere you want both sides secured.
The Sparta lever has a angular modern design with clean lines that holds up well in high-traffic corridors. This one ships in Bright Brass (605). Non-handed, so you don't need to worry about swing direction. Fits standard ANSI 161 cylindrical prep — 2-1/8" cross bore, 1" edge bore — which means it drops right into any door that previously had an ND, NDE, or most other cylindrical locks.
Why the ND Over Cheaper Cylindrical Locks
The Vandlgard trim is the key differentiator. When the lock is in the locked position, the outside lever free-spins — there's nothing for someone to grab onto and torque. Schlage tested these to withstand 3,100 in-lb of abusive lever torque and 1,600 lbs of offset lever pull. Compare that to a Grade 2 lock that starts flexing at a fraction of that. Schools, hospitals, and government buildings spec Vandlgard because the lever just doesn't give vandals anything to work with.
The ND also runs past 3 million cycles without failure — that's Grade 1 certification and then some. The chassis is zinc-plated steel, levers are pressure-cast zinc plated to match finish. You won't see droop or wobble even after years of heavy use.
Avoid a Callback
Double-check your door thickness before ordering. Standard range is 1-5/8" to 2-1/8". If you're on a 1-3/8" door, you'll need the spacer kit (sold separately). Also verify your keyway — this ships with Schlage C keyway standard. If the building is on Everest C123, Primus, or a restricted keyway, order the correct cylinder option to avoid a return trip.
