    Product Description

    Every school, hospital, and government building running access control needs electrified locks — and Fail Safe is required by code on fire-rated egress paths. This is that lock.

    The Sargent RXLC-8270-24V-LNB-10 is a Fail Safe function mortise lock from the 8200 Series — Sargent's flagship commercial mortise platform that's been trusted on schools, hospitals, office buildings, and government facilities for decades. Fail Safe electric operation wired for 24VDC from your access control panel, card reader, or keypad system. The lock retracts the latch automatically when power is cut — code-required on fire-rated egress doors.

    Fail Safe Operation — This lock unlocks automatically when power is lost. That's not a defect — it's a code requirement. On fire-rated egress doors, the lock MUST release during a power failure so occupants can get out. If you need the door to stay locked during a power outage, you want Fail Secure instead.
    Ships Less Cylinder — This lock does not include a mortise cylinder. You need to order a Sargent mortise cylinder separately to match your building's existing keyway (HA, LA, RA, RB, RC, etc.). The product image shows the lock with a cylinder installed for reference — yours will arrive without one. If you're not sure which keyway you need, pull an existing cylinder from the building and look at the key — or call us at (877) 365-5625 and we'll help you figure it out.

    This one comes with LN Rose, B Lever in Satin Bronze — Satin Bronze finish.

    The B lever is Sargent's bread-and-butter commercial design — ADA compliant, returns to horizontal after use, non-handed so it works on any door. You'll find it on thousands of doors in every school district and hospital in the country.

    Pro-Tip from Our Locksmiths: Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure — get this right. Fail Safe unlocks when power is lost. Fail Secure stays locked when power is lost. The most common mistake we see? Contractors ordering Fail Safe for a server room — that should be Fail Secure. Check with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) if you're not sure.

    Sargent provides a 3-year limited warranty on electromechanical components covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service. Mechanical components retain their own warranty period. Warranty applies to the original purchaser when installed per Sargent specifications.
