ALX50J-ATH-613 Schlage ALX Series Cylindrical Lever Lock — Entrance/Office Lock, Athens Lever, Oil Rubbed Bronze
Somebody in an office wants to lock the door with a thumb and not hunt for a key. The ALX50 gives them that: a push button in the inside lever. Push it and the outside lever goes dead. A key from the hall, or a turn of the inside lever, lets it go again. Here is what catches people on the first day. The key unlocks this lock but it will not lock it. To lock up on the way out, push the button with the door open and pull the door shut. Turn the inside lever after pushing the button and you just unlocked it.
This one is the Athens lever on the Rhodes rose, with its lever prepped for a full size interchangeable core and no core in the box, in Oil Rubbed Bronze. The latch is a deadlatch. Want the outside lever to spin free when locked? Schlage sells that as Vandlgard, catalog number ALXV50. Pick your backset in the dropdown: 2-3/4" is standard, 2-3/8" is the other choice. Measure from the door edge to the center of the bore before you order.

Q: Why won't the key lock this from the hall?
A: It is not supposed to. On function 50 the key only unlocks; the inside button does the locking. If the key has to lock it from outside, you want the ALX70 classroom lock. If the door should always be locked, you want the ALX80 storeroom lock.
Q: Which core goes in this?
A: A full size interchangeable core, bought separately. This one is less core, so the lever arrives ready for it with nothing in it.
Q: Is this a Grade 1 lock?
A: The Athens lever is rated Grade 1 by Schlage, but the ALX Series as a lock is certified Grade 2. If the spec says Grade 1 for the whole lock, step up to the Schlage ND Series.
