Top jamb is the install you reach for when the door is a heavy storefront, an institutional fire-rated entry, or any opening where the closer cannot live on the door face. The push side jamb takes the cylinder; the arm reaches across to the door. The hard part on a top jamb job is matching closer power to the door size while still hitting reveal, working around the frame return, and passing inspection on a fire-rated opening. Q: Will the 218-314 bracket work on a 4 inch reveal?
A: No. The 218-314 reveal bracket is sized for 2-1/8 inch through 3-1/4 inch reveals only. For deeper reveals you need a 314-414 (3-1/4 inch through 4-1/4 inch) or 414-518 (4-1/4 inch through 5-1/8 inch) bracket. Order the bracket that matches your actual reveal measurement; do not stack shims.
Q: Can I use this on a fire-rated door?
A: Yes. The 7500 series is UL 10C listed for up to 3-hour fire doors (Type A). Confirm the door label and frame label both list a closer requirement, then field-adjust spring size to meet the maximum opening force requirement on the door label.
Q: How do I set spring size in the field?
A: The 7500 has a hex-key adjustable spring power. Open the cover, locate the spring power adjustment screw on the back of the cylinder, and rotate to the size mark. Sizes 1 and 2 are interior office doors, 3 is a typical interior fire door, 4 is a standard exterior door, and 5-6 are heavy or oversized exterior doors. Adjust after install with the door under operation; do not preset off-door.

Norton, an ASSA ABLOY brand, warrants its door closers and operators sold in the United States to be free from defects in workmanship and materials under normal use and service.
Coverage period for this product (Norton 7500 Series): twenty-five (25) years on mechanical components from the date of delivery to the original purchaser, when properly installed and maintained per the manufacturer's installation instructions.
What is covered: defects in workmanship and materials under normal use and service. Liability is limited to repair or replacement of the product or component part that proves defective during the warranty period.
What is NOT covered: defects or damage arising from improper installation (including incorrect mounting bracket selection, wrong arm type, or installation outside the product's specified door size and weight range), lack of or improper maintenance, modification of the closer body or arm, abuse, accident, normal wear of the cover or finish, exposure to corrosive environments beyond the product's rating, or use of non-Norton arms, brackets, covers, or replacement parts.
Conditions that void warranty: any modification made to the product, including drilling, machining, or substitution of non-original components, voids the warranty regardless of whether the modification causes or contributes to the alleged defect. Field welding to the closer body or arm voids the warranty.
Finish coverage: the 689 aluminum painted finish is covered for two (2) years against defects in the paint application from the date of delivery. Field touch-up paint is available; using non-Norton touch-up materials voids finish coverage.
Implied warranties and damages: this warranty is in lieu of all other express warranties. To the extent permitted by law, all implied warranties are limited to the duration of this warranty. The manufacturer shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages, including labor cost to remove and reinstall a defective closer. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts or the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusions may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
