    Every locksmith van in the country has Ilco cylinders on the shelf.     Mortise Cylinders — The Core of Every Retrofit

    Ilco's mortise cylinder line runs from 15/16" dummies up through 2" extended-length units for thick doors. The standard 1-1/8" is the workhorse — that's your Adams Rite storefront lock, your Schlage L-series mortise body, your Von Duprin trim cylinder. Available in 5-pin and 6-pin configurations across Schlage C, Corbin Russwin 59A1/59A2, Sargent LA/RA, Yale 8, and Arrow keyways. Every cylinder ships keyed different in 26D (satin chrome) finish with the appropriate cam and tailpiece for the application.

    The 1-1/4" length handles deeper mortise preps — common on older Corbin and Russwin locksets. The 1" length works for the shallower preps on some Sargent and Yale bodies. Dummy cylinders fill unused cylinder preps on single-cylinder mortise locks where only one side gets a keyed cylinder. All machined from the same solid brass bar stock as the keyed units.

    SFIC Cores & Housings — Best/Falcon IC System Compatible

    For facilities running Best, Falcon, or any SFIC-compatible system, Ilco's R2800 Series housings and uncombinated cores are the go-to aftermarket source. The mortise housings accept 6-pin or 7-pin small format cores and come with interchangeable cams — one housing, multiple applications. The thin-head mortise design converts to rim using the R2800 rim kit, so you carry one housing style and adapt on site.

    Uncombinated cores ship blank — you pin them to your customer's existing master key system. Available in every standard Best keyway (A through M, plus T-series), these are the cores institutional locksmiths buy by the dozen for university campuses, hospitals, and government buildings where IC core changeover is a regular maintenance task.

    Rim Cylinders & Key-in-Knob Replacements

    Rim cylinders are what connects your exit device trim to the key system. Ilco rim cylinders with screw cap cover every commercial keyway and come with a standard long tailpiece that you cut to length on site. The solid brass construction matches OEM weight and feel — your customers won't know the difference between the Ilco replacement and the original Schlage or Sargent unit that came out.

    The combination knob/deadbolt cylinders (15995 series) handle the bread-and-butter residential and light commercial work — replacing worn-out Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, and Corbin Russwin knob cylinders. Five-pin standard, keyed different, available in all the keyways that matter.

    Lock Depot Pro-Tip: The Cam and Tailpiece Cheat Sheet

    The number one callback on cylinder replacements is wrong cam rotation. Before you pull the old cylinder, mark which direction the cam throws — clockwise or counterclockwise — and note the cam style (straight, offset, Adams Rite, etc.). Ilco ships their mortise cylinders with the standard straight cam, but if you're replacing a cylinder in a Schlage L-series, you'll need the L583-054 cam for proper deadbolt throw. For Adams Rite storefront locks, you want the 861D tailpiece, not the standard. Keep a small parts kit on the van with Ilco's accessory cams and tailpieces — it saves the trip back to the shop every single time.

    Are Ilco cylinders the same quality as Schlage or Corbin Russwin OEM cylinders?

    Ilco machines their cylinders from the same solid brass bar stock used by the OEM manufacturers. The tolerances, threading, and keyway cuts are spec-for-spec compatible. On a retrofit job, the Ilco replacement drops into the same mortise prep without any modification. The practical difference is price — Ilco gives you OEM-quality construction at a fraction of the OEM replacement cost, which is why they've been the default aftermarket cylinder for commercial locksmiths since the 1970s.

    What's the difference between SFIC and standard mortise cylinders?

    Standard mortise cylinders are permanent — you pin the cylinder, install it, and it stays until you physically unscrew it. SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) systems use a removable core that swaps out with a control key in seconds. Facilities like hospitals and universities prefer SFIC because one maintenance tech can re-core an entire floor in minutes without tools. Ilco makes both the housings (the shell that goes in the door) and the uncombinated cores (the removable part you pin to your system).

    Which Ilco cylinder length do I need?

    Measure the door thickness and check the lock body spec. The standard is 1-1/8" for most modern commercial mortise locks (Schlage L-Series, Corbin Russwin ML, Adams Rite). Older Corbin and Russwin bodies sometimes need 1-1/4". The 1" length works for shallower Sargent and Yale preps. For thick doors or extended-face applications, Ilco makes 1-1/2", 1-3/4", and 2" lengths. When in doubt, measure the cylinder you're replacing — outside diameter and length from the face to the end of the plug.

    Do Ilco rim cylinders work with Von Duprin and Sargent exit device trim?

    Yes — Ilco rim cylinders with screw cap are dimensionally identical to the OEM cylinders from Von Duprin, Sargent, and other exit device manufacturers. The long tailpiece ships standard and you cut it to the required length on site. Match the keyway to your building's master key system and it drops right in. The screw cap threads are universal — same thread pitch as Schlage, Yale, and Corbin rim cylinders.

    Can I get Ilco cylinders keyed to my existing master key system?

    All Ilco cylinders from Lock Depot ship keyed different (KD). For master key integration, you have two options: order the cylinder and repin it to your system on site (standard practice for locksmiths), or contact us for keyed-alike or master-keyed orders on quantity purchases. For SFIC systems, the uncombinated cores ship blank — you pin them to your existing bitting using your pinning kit and control key.
