The Schlage L9440-12B-630-RH is the L Series Privacy Lock with Deadbolt (ANSI F19, Grade 1) in Satin Stainless Steel (US32D), built on the mortise case that has been the benchmark for commercial door hardware for decades. Lever only outside; thumbturn inside with lever; deadbolt, latchbolt and deadlocking auxiliary latch. Non-keyed. Restrooms, dressing rooms, and private offices that want a true deadbolt for privacy without keyed access. The occupant throws the deadbolt from inside; single-motion inside egress retracts both bolts, and the outside lever stays fixed while locked.
How This Function Operates
Outside: Outside lever (or knob) is always fixed. Latchbolt is retracted by the inside lever.
Inside: Deadbolt is thrown or retracted by rotating the inside thumbturn. Rotating the inside lever retracts both the deadbolt and latchbolt. Inside lever always free for immediate egress.
Key: None — privacy function is non-keyed; the deadbolt is operated only by the inside thumbturn.
