That is the whole reason the CO-Series and the LE-Series exist, and it is why they win retrofit jobs that a wired system cannot price competitively.

    The choice between the two families comes down to one question, and it is not budget — it is whether anyone needs to change a credential without walking to the door. The CO-Series is offline: it holds its own user list in the lock, and adding or deleting a user means somebody physically goes to that opening with a keypad sequence or a phone. The LE-Series is mobile-enabled: it is built on Schlage's Grade 1 L-Series mortise chassis with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on board, so it takes daily updates from host software by itself, and if you add an ENGAGE Gateway it moves to live communication — instant lockdown, immediate credential revocation, real-time events. If a customer says the words "campus," "lockdown," or "we fire people," you are quoting LE, not CO.

    Be clear about what is not on this shelf, because it changes how you quote. There are no standalone readers, no access control panels, no credentials or cards, and no power supplies here — these locks are battery powered and self-contained.     All three are ANSI/BHMA A156.25 Grade 1 and UL 294 listed for access control. The LE-Series additionally carries the A156.13 mortise lock standard, because it is a real L-Series mortise body underneath.

    Pro-Tip: The ENGAGE Gateway Is Not Part of the Lock

    This is the single most common way an LE-Series quote goes wrong. The lock itself is mobile-enabled out of the box and will take a scheduled daily update on its own — that is included. Real-time control is not. Instant lockdown, revoking a badge in the moment, live event monitoring: all of that requires an ENGAGE Gateway, and the Gateway is a separate line item that is not inside any lock SKU on this page. If the customer described a lockdown scenario and your quote has only locks on it, the quote is short. Price the Gateway before you send it, not after the purchase order lands.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Do these locks need wires run to the door?

    No. Both the CO-Series and the LE-Series are battery powered and self-contained. There is no separate reader, no panel at the opening, and no low-voltage run. That is the entire point of the platform and it is what makes them viable on a retrofit where fishing wire through a masonry wall is not on the table.

    What is the real difference between the CO-100 and the CO-200?

    Capacity and accountability. The CO-100 holds up to 500 PIN codes and is programmed by hand at the keypad, with no audit trail. The CO-200 goes to 2,000 users, records a 2,000-event audit trail, accepts proximity and magnetic stripe credentials as well as PINs, and can be computer programmed. If anyone will ever ask "who opened this door at 2 a.m.," you need the CO-200.

    Can I manage an LE-Series lock without buying a gateway?

    Yes, and plenty of sites do. Without a Gateway the lock still receives automatic scheduled updates from your host software over Wi-Fi, and you can configure it over Bluetooth from a phone or tablet. What you give up is immediacy: a credential you delete today takes effect at the next scheduled update, not the second you press the button. Add the Gateway when the customer needs the second.

    Will an LE-Series lock fit my existing mortise prep?

    It is built on the Grade 1 L-Series mortise chassis, so it drops into a standard ANSI A115.1 mortise prep the same way an L-Series does. Confirm handing, backset, lever style and the cylinder arrangement before you order — the LE ships in "less cylinder" configurations as well as prepped for Everest and small format interchangeable cores, and those are not interchangeable after the fact.
