High-Security & Electrified Trim Solutions

Modern facilities require more than just mechanical locking. We specialize in advanced Von Duprin trim configurations:

Breakaway™ Levers (996L): Designed to prevent "vandalism by leverage." If someone jumps on the lever, it breaks away to a downward position without snapping the internal drive, and can be easily reset. Shop 996L Lever Trim →

Electrified Trim (E996L): The premier solution for access control. It allows for remote locking/unlocking of the lever, perfect for card reader systems. Available in 12V or 24V DC.

Cylinder Dogging (CD): While technically a part of the device, we stock the cylinders and kits required to convert standard hex-key dogging to keyed cylinder dogging.

Expert Field Tip: The "Tailpiece" Trap

The most common reason Von Duprin trim fails shortly after installation isn't the hardware—it's the tailpiece timing. For 996L levers, ensure your tailpiece is cut to the exact thickness of the door. If it's even 1/8" too long, it will put constant pressure on the exit device's center case, causing the lever to stick or the key to bind. For 22 series (230L) trim, always use the center-driven guide to ensure the spindle doesn't "wobble," which eventually rounds out the hub. A properly timed Von Duprin trim should feel smooth and operate with zero resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between "L" and "L-BE" functions?

The L (Lever) function is a classroom function; the key locks or unlocks the lever. The L-BE (Blank Escutcheon) function means the lever is always active (passage function) and has no hole for a cylinder.

Can I use 996L trim on a 22 series bar?

No. Von Duprin trims are series-specific. The 996L is designed for wide-stile 98/99 devices. For the 22 series, you must use the 230 series trim. Using the wrong trim will result in a misalignment that can damage the exit device.

Are Von Duprin trims handed?

The 996L and 230L levers are field-reversible, meaning you can change them from RHR to LHR in seconds. However, specialized architectural trims like the 55 series are handed and must be ordered correctly.

What does "Night Latch" (NL) mean?

In the Night Latch function, the outside lever or pull is always rigid. The only way to enter is by using a key to retract the latchbolt. This is the standard choice for secure exterior perimeter doors.
