Product Description
CX-ED1420 Camden Universal Series Grade 1 Low Profile Fire Rated Electric Strike — Field-Selectable Fail Safe / Fail Secure, Satin Stainless
You pull the old strike out of a shallow aluminum storefront jamb and find barely an inch of depth behind the faceplate — not enough room for a standard cut-in strike, and the door is fire-rated so you can't just hog out the frame. The Camden CX-ED1420 is built for exactly that wall. It is a low-profile, Grade 1, ANSI fire-rated electric strike engineered to drop into tight cylindrical-lock preps where a deeper body simply won't fit, while keeping the 90-minute fire label intact.
This is the “universal” member of Camden's strike line: it ships with the ANSI square faceplate and a trim plate, runs on either 12 or 24 volts AC or DC out of the box, and lets you flip between fail safe and fail secure in the field with no extra parts. Pair it with cylindrical locksets from Arrow, Best, Cal-Royal, PDQ, Sargent, Schlage, and most other common brands. The CX-ED1420 is tuned for a 1/2" to 5/8" latch projection — if your latch throws deeper (5/8" to 3/4"), step over to the standard-depth Camden CX-ED1410 instead.

Compliance & Codes
UL Listed and ANSI/BHMA Grade 1. UL verified for 90-minute fire-rated openings and 500,000 cycles. Burglary rated. As with any electric strike, a fail-safe configuration on a fire door must be tied into the building fire alarm so the opening relocks on alarm — confirm your local AHJ requirements before final wiring.

Pro-Installer FAQ
Q: What's the difference between the CX-ED1420 and the CX-ED1410?
A: Latch depth. The CX-ED1420 is the low-profile body for a 1/2" to 5/8" latch projection and a shallower 1-3/16" deep cut. The CX-ED1410 handles a deeper 5/8" to 3/4" projection in a 1-3/8" deep body. Measure your latch throw before you order — that single dimension decides which one fits.
Q: AC or DC — does it matter?
A: Electrically it works on both 12 or 24V AC or DC. Mechanically it matters: run it on AC and the strike buzzes when energized; run it on DC and it operates silently. For an office or anywhere noise matters, wire it DC with a proper power supply.
Q: Can I switch it from fail secure to fail safe on the job?
A: Yes. Fail safe / fail secure is field-selectable on the strike with no extra parts. Just remember that switching a fire-rated opening to fail safe means it must release on power loss and relock on fire alarm — that wiring has to be coordinated with the fire panel.
